Everything may change in our demoralized
world except the heart, man’s love and his
striving to know the divine. Painting, like all
poetry, has its part in the divine; people feel
this today just as much as they used to.
Marc Chagall
I paint because I enjoy it and because I need to give some of what I take from my life.
Painting is a journey on which I hope to stay for my entire life. It is not just a practice of art; for me it is also the way one perceives the world and the way one lives his/her life.
I am not trying to convey any message or statement through my paintings.
I merely strive to capture a moment when time is seized, allowing viewers to participate by establishing their own connection to my work and recalling their own life experiences. I cannot tell viewers what to feel and perceive, they have to find it themselves. However, I always appreciate it when people enjoy my art and find meaning in it.
It is not the form of the subject that I am interested in. I perceive the form as an illusion only. What strikes me is that elusive and invisible something that I am trying to capture in my paintings. I attempt to explore a moment when the flash of the past, present and future is revealed at once, In that moment there are no limits, only an ever expanding promise of change, as questions become our answers.
I am intrigued by the human hands and their relationship with each other and with nature as well as their visual beauty. Hands are for me the tools of the mind, an extension of the mysterious world that is hidden within us. Hands pointedly ask us what our minds are filled with. Nature represents for me the uncontrolled living system that I consider an infinite source of inspiration.
I find references for my work in art, nature and in an imaginary world of the mind. I am inspired by almost all art that has ever been done historically- even cave images.
My paintings are informed by the Romantic Movement of the 18th century when nature and mind were celebrated. Another great influence on my work is Abstract Expressionism because it focuses on the painting itself.
Oscar Kokoschka's passionate search for the exposure of inner sensibility and Edward Munch's ability to capture the mood are inspiring for me. I am also impressed by Velazquez' and Rembrandt's use of light in their paintings. I find metaphysical mysteries hidden in Rembrandt's works fascinating.
